What’s gone wrong?

The symptom doesn’t always tell the whole story

After more than 20 years repairing vacuum cleaners, one thing becomes clear: it’s easy to guess at the fault — and just as easy to guess wrong.

A Gtech that won’t switch on could have a battery, charging, switch or electrical fault. Poor pick-up or loss of suction may be caused by a blockage, restricted airflow, dirty filters or a brush-roll problem. Unusual noises can also point towards a mechanical fault that needs investigating.

Handles, wheels and other moving components can become worn or damaged after years of everyday use.

You don’t need to diagnose it yourself. Tell us what your Gtech is doing and we’ll take it from there.

A common Gtech AirRam problem

When a Gtech wheel falls off, can it be repaired?

This is one of those faults where the honest answer is: sometimes.

On many Gtech machines, when a wheel falls off the damage isn’t limited to the wheel itself. The mounting area can break in a way that means simply fitting another wheel isn’t possible.

On some machines, however, the damage can still be repaired.

If your AR29, AR30 or another AirRam has developed a wheel problem, we need to establish what has actually broken before saying whether a repair is practical.

We’d rather tell you a repair isn’t sensible than sell you the wrong solution.

Battery & charging

Battery not lasting — or not charging at all?

An AirRam that once comfortably cleaned the house may gradually start running for less and less time. Another machine may suddenly refuse to charge or switch on altogether.

It’s natural to assume: “I need a new Gtech AirRam battery.”

Sometimes that’s exactly what is needed. But we prefer to check the machine before recommending a battery replacement based purely on the symptom.

If a replacement battery is required, we’ll explain what’s needed and quote for it before fitting it.

Pick-up & performance

When your AirRam stops cleaning like it used to

Loss of suction or poor pick-up doesn’t automatically mean a major component has failed. Hair and debris can build up around the brush roll, filters can become restricted, and blockages can reduce airflow through the machine.

If the brush roll has stopped turning altogether, we check why before recommending a repair.

The aim is to find the cause of the problem — not simply replace parts until the symptom disappears.

Repair or replace?

Can a Gtech AirRam be repaired?

Yes — many Gtech AirRam faults can be repaired.

A faulty switch, charging problem, worn component or other repairable fault doesn’t necessarily mean the whole vacuum has reached the end of its useful life.

But not every repair makes financial sense. Our job is to find out what has failed and whether repairing your particular machine is actually worth doing.

“If there’s a sensible repair, we’ll explain it. If we think you’d be better putting the money towards another vacuum, we’ll tell you that too.”
